The Black Knights improved to 12-16 while the Jaspers fall to 6-17.
Junior
Brendan Bisset (New City, NY / Don Bosco Prep (NJ)) and sophomore
Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) each homered to give Manhattan its first multi-homer game of the year to highlight a nine-hit attack.
Bisset led off the game with his first career home run before Army West Point answered with three runs in the bottom of the third in taking a 3-1 lead.
The Jaspers immediately got one run back in the top of the fourth. Senior
Evan Brown (Ashburnham, MA / Bridgton Academy (ME)) led off with a double before advancing to third on a
Dominic Palma (Fr., Hilton, NY / Hilton) single. He would then come around to score on a
Matt Forlow (Sr., Cold Spring, NY / Haldane) sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the fifth, Alex Dickerson broke the game open with a bases-clearing three-run triple as the Black Knights extended their lead to 7-2.
Manhattan immediately answered with three runs in the top of the sixth. Pena led off with his team-leading second home run of the year to center field. Brown then walked before moving to third on a Palma single. Forlow and junior
Ryan Gronlier (Doral, FL / Doral Academy) followed with RBI ground outs in trimming the deficit to 7-5.
After stranding a pair of runners in the eighth, the Jaspers loaded the bases in the ninth with two outs but were unable to push anything across the board.
Palma went 3-for-4 with a run while Brown reached base safely four times and Bisset three times to pace a nine-hit Manhattan attack.
Sophomore RHP
Ryan Takacs (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial) struck out two while yielding four runs, two earned, on six hits over 4.0 innings in being saddled with the loss for the Jaspers.
Dickerson was 3-for-4 while falling a home run short of the cycle with three RBI to highlight an Army West Point offense that rapped out 12 hits. Cam Opp earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings of work.
Manhattan returns to action at Fairfield with a 12:00 pm doubleheader on Saturday, April 8.
