Manhattan opened the scoring with a first-inning run as junior
Brendan Bisset (New City, NY / Don Bosco Prep (NJ)) was plunked before stealing second and would come around to score on a
Jason Patnick (Sr., Hopewell, NJ / Hopewell Valley) RBI ground out.
The Jaspers added to the lead with two runs on three hits, including two of the infield variety, in the third. Freshman
Dominic Palma (Hilton, NY / Hilton) got aboard via a one-out single before senior
Matt Forlow (Cold Spring, NY / Haldane) was plunked. Freshman
Alex Cerda (Miami, FL / Florida Christian Prep) followed with an infield single with Palma scoring on a throwing error. Bisset then capped the scoring with a RBI single in extending the advantage out to 3-0.
Army responded with three runs in the bottom part of the frame in tying the game up at 3-3.
Manhattan quickly reclaimed the lead as sophomore
Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) walked, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on a wild pitch.
The Jaspers added to the lead with three more runs in the fourth while batting around. Pena delivered the big blow with a two-run double while Palma plated the third score with a RBI ground out.
In the top of the seventh, Forlow then gave Manhattan its biggest lead of the game at 8-3 with his first career home run.
The Black Knights then responded with three runs before senior RHP
Matt Simonetti (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) was summoned from the bullpen to get the final out of the frame while keeping the Jasper lead at 8-6.
Freshman RHP
T.J. Stuart (Milford, CT / Bishop Foran) then punched out two in a scoreless eighth and senior RHP
Shawn Kanwisher (Washington Township, NJ / St. Joseph Regional) fired a perfect ninth in securing his fourth save of the year.
Sophomore RHP
Matt Jones (Haddonfield, NJ / Haddonfield) earned the win, allowing three runs on five hits over 5.0 innings.
Eight different Manhattan players hit safely with senior
Evan Brown (Ashburnham, MA / Bridgton Academy (ME)) leading the way with two while the Jaspers also drew nine walks.
Matt Hudgins and Jon Rosoff each had two hits to pace a nine-hit Army attack.
Mike Gagliardi was saddled with the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, over 2.1 innings.
Manhattan will next host UAlbany on Wednesday, April 12 with first pitch tabbed for 6:30 pm.
