Bronx, NY –
Manhattan and Fordham split a doubleheader at Houlihan Park with the Jaspers taking the second game by a 4-2 count and the Rams the first by an 8-4 score.

The Jaspers, which scored all eight of their runs on the day with two outs, are now 2-7 while the Rams are 3-9.

Game 2
Sophomore RHP Marc Galvan (Brielle, NJ / Manasquan) struck out seven in a complete game effort in leading Manhattan to a 4-2 victory over Fordham in game two.

The Garden State native retired the minimum 20 through his first 6.2 innings of work – including 12-straight at one points – en route to notching his first win of the year.

In the fourth inning, the Jaspers opened the scoring with three runs. Senior Evan Brown (Ashburnham, MA / Bridgton Academy (ME)) legged out an infield hit with two outs before senior Matt Forlow (Cold Spring, NY / Haldane) worked a walk. Senior Jason Patnick (Hopewell, NJ / IMG Academy (FL)) then delivered a two-run, bases-clearing triple to right center on the 10th pitch he saw. After a move to the bullpen, freshman Alex Cerda (Miami, FL / Florida Christian School) crushed the first he saw to plate Patnick and cap the visitors' three-run frame.

After grabbing the lead, Galvan made quick work of the Rams by striking out the side with each hitter going down looking in the bottom part of the frame.

In the top of the sixth, Cerda extended the lead out to 4-0 with a two-out ground-rule double in driving in Patnick for the second time in the game.

Fordham would rally for two runs in the bottom of the seventh before Galvan capped his dominating performance, which produced five 1-2-3 frames.

All nine Manhattan regulars reached base safely as Cerda went 2-for-3 with two RBI while Brown added two hits to pace an eight-hit Jasper attack.

Luke Stampfl had an inside-the-park solo home run to highlight the top performers for the Rams.

Game 1
Fordham posted a five-run rally in the bottom of the ninth in leading Manhattan to an 8-4 extra-inning win in the first game at Houlihan Park.

In the early going, the Jaspers threatened with a pair of hits in each of the first three frames before finally breaking through in the top of the fourth.

Brown led off with a ground-rule double before moving to third on a Patnick single. Freshman Alex Cerda then drew a walk to load up the bases with one out. Ram reliever David Wright briefly kept Manhattan at bay with a strikeout before junior Adam Genners (Jacksonville, FL / Stanton College Prep) drew a bases-loaded walk to open the scoring while forcing Fordham to the bullpen. Junior Brendan Bisset (New City, NY / Don Bosco Prep) then greeted reliever Shane McDonald with a two-run, ground-rule double to cap a three-run frame.

On the other side, sophomore RHP Ryan Takacs (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial) was outstanding over his first four innings in yielding just one hit before running into trouble in the fifth. Matthew Kozuch led off with a single before moving to second on a fielding error. Alvin Melendez followed with a run-scoring single to plate Kozuch while chasing Takacs from the game. Senior Matt Simonetti (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) entered and quickly got three outs to evade further trouble.

In the sixth, Fordham rallied to tie it up at 3-3 with a Mark Donadio RBI single and an Alvin Melendez RBI fielder's choice.

The score would remain tied until the ninth when Manhattan manufactured a run with a two-out rally. Genners blooped a single before Bisset walked and sophomore Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) followed with his third hit of the game, a run-scoring single through the right side.

Unfortunately, the Rams would answer with five in the bottom part of the frame in posting an 8-4 walk-off victory.

Brown doubled twice while Patnick and Genners each had two hits to round out the multi-hit performers for the Jaspers, which outhit Fordham by a 12-9 count.

Stampfl went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and two runs to lead the way for the Rams while Kyle Martin earned the win with 2.0 innings of one-run ball.
