West Long Branch, NJ – Despite solid performances from men's senior Brandon Shields (Stony Point, NY / George Mason) and women's sophomore Kali Nembach (Lynbrook, NY / Lynbrook), Manhattan fell to Monmouth and Siena on Saturday, November 18 in MAAC play.

Despite the defeats, Head Coach Molly Belk saw improvement from her roster, both in and out of the pool.

"We really started to work as a unit and the widespread support helped produce some great swims and improvement all around," said Belk. "There were many close races today and it's a good sign that we were in there fighting."

Shields led the way for the men's squad. He posted a season-best time of 1:49.79 to win the 200-yard Freestyle event and won the 500-yard Freestyle in 5:04.35. He also placed second in the 1000-yard Freestyle behind teammate Evan Battisti (East Meadow, NY / East Meadow), who was victorious thanks to a final time of 10:22.21.

Elsewhere, senior Tyler McCloskey (Orangeburg, NY / Tappan Zee) finished third in the 100-yard Butterfly in 56.72 seconds and second in the 200-yard Butterfly in 2:06.64. He was the third leg in Manhattan's 200-yard medley relay that finished as the runner-up. Tyler Dalton (East Stroudsburg, PA / Pocono Mountain East) was third and second in the 100-yard and 200-yard Breaststroke, respectively.

On the women's side, Nembach narrowly missed out on capturing the gold in the 100-yard Freestyle, finishing 15 nanoseconds behind Siena's Francesca Tinucci at 56.21 seconds. Nembach also anchored the 200-yard medley relay, where the Jaspers placed third with a time of 1:57.28. She was Manhatan's top finisher in the 100-yard Freestyle.

Senior Alexandra Hutzler (Miller Place, NY / Miller Place) paced Manhattan in the 100-yard Breaststroke and 100-yard Butterfly, ending in third place in the latter event in 1:02.46. Junior Megan Pagano (Lagrangeville, NY / Arlington) swam in 1:04.47 to finish third in the 100-yard backstroke.

The men's team has a quick turnaround as they travel to Newark, NJ to compete against NJIT and St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday, November 19 at 5:00 pm. The women's side is idle until the ECAC Championships from December 1 to 3.
