Brooklyn, NY – Fueled by impressive performances from senior
Tyler McCloskey (Orangeburg, NY / Tappan Zee) as well as multiple freshmen, the Manhattan men's swimming and diving team defeated St. Francis Brooklyn 182-120 in the Brooklyn Invite.
McCloskey won the 200 Yard IM on day one with a time of 2:05.42 as well as the 100 Yard butterfly in 56.58 seconds on day two. He also participated in the 200 and 400 Yard medley relays that took first place.
Freshman
Kevin Richard (Pompton Plains, NJ / Pequannock Township) began the winning 200 Yard medley relay that eventually recorded a time of 1:43.29. Classmate
Charles Ledda (New Fairfield, CT / New Fairfield) swam the 50 Yard Freestyle in 22.63 seconds to claim victory on Friday, October 6. He anchored the winning 400 Yard medley relay and helped the group finish in 3:44.84.
Sophomore
Timothy Valentine (Massapequa, NY / Chaminade) helped the Jaspers overcome a 47-44 deficit after Friday. On Saturday, October 7, Valentine took home the 100 and 200 Yard breaststroke titles, ending with times of 1:01.24 and 2:16.44, respectively.
On the women's side, Manhattan fell to St. Francis Brooklyn and LIU Brooklyn. In Brooklyn Heights on Friday, sophomore
Kali Nembach (Lynbrook, NY / Lynbrook) placed fourth in the 50 Yard Freestyle at 26.36 seconds. Freshman
Kaitlyn Moreschi (Hollywood, FL / Fort Lauderdale) and senior
Audrey Corcoran (West Boylston, MA / West Boylston) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200 Yard IM.
On day two at LIU Brooklyn, Moreschi and Nembach combined with seniors
Eileen Blood (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) and
Alexandra Hutzler (Miller Place, NY / Miller Place) in the 400 Yard Relay Medley and finished in 4:19.00 to place third. Hutzler earned fourth place with a 1:04.44 time in the 100 Yard Butterfly while Moreschi was second in the 200 Yard Butterfly at 2:20.35.
Both squads return to action on Saturday, October 21 when they battle MAAC rival Saint Peter's as well as Pace in Pleasantville, NY.
