Riverdale, NY - Sophomore
Arianna Montefusco (Levittown, NY / General Douglas MacArthur) scored both Manhattan goals in leading the Jaspers to their first-ever win at Fairfield.
Manhattan also clinched a top-five spot and a bye for the upcoming MAAC Tournament to be contested at Disney.
The Jaspers improve to 8-6-1 and 6-2 in the MAAC while the Stags fall to 6-8 and 4-4 in the league.
After being denied on her first three shot attempts, Montefusco finally broke through in the 30th minute when she corralled an errant pass and calmly blasted it in to open the scoring.
Over the next 39-plus minutes, Manhattan could only manage two more shot attempts before Montefusco again found the back of the net. Junior
Annie Doerr (Pittsford, NY / Our Lady of Mercy) crossed the ball into the box and Montefusco did the rest in staking the Jaspers to an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the 70th minute.
From that point on the defense took over as Fairfield was able to only muster three more shots, including just one on goal.
Junior
Kelly DiGregorio (Centerreach, NY / St. Anthony's) secured her sixth win of the year with three saves.
