Riverdale, NY – Quinnipiac held off a late-charging Manhattan squad by a 1-0 count in MAAC action at Gaelic Park.

The Bobcats improve to 4-8-1 and 3-3 in the MAAC while the Jaspers fall to 7-6 and 4-2 in the league.

Quinnipiac controlled the action through most of the first half but was denied time and time again by Marcellin Gohier (Pouance, France / CENS). The sophomore goalkeeper deflected a point-blank shot in the sixth minute before intercepting a pair of dangerous crosses in the 17th and 31st minutes.

The Bobcats broke through in the 38th minute when Eamon Whelan scored off a Matthew Taylor pass.

After halftime, Manhattan appeared poised to tie it up thanks to a relentless offensive attack that produced a 10-3 advantage in shots.

In the 50th minute freshman Brandon Joseph-Buadi (Shoreham-By-Sea, England / Woodard) headed a shot into the box to junior Ryan Shields (Wigan, England / Standish Community), who had his point-blank shot blocked.

Shields was at it again in the 72nd minute as Shields fired a shot that was kept out of the back of the net by the Quinnipiac keeper.

In the 75th minute, senior Troy Carrington (Verona, NJ / Syracuse) and Joseph-Buadi had back-to-back shot. Four minutes later, Joseph-Buadi had another golden opportunity but his blast from 20 yards out went painfully high.

Manhattan would have two more attempts only to be denied each time as the visitors were able to hold on to the 1-0 victory.
