Modena's Hat Trick Lifts Manhattan To 5-0 Win Over Canisius

Riverdale, NY - Senior Erica Modena (Massapequa, NY / Massapequa) recorded her second career hat trick to lift Manhattan to a rousing 5-0 win over Canisius at Gaelic Park.
 
Modena's three scores came within the first 26 minutes of action as the Jaspers improve to 7-6-1 and 5-2 in the MAAC while the Golden Griffins fall to 7-7-1 and 2-5-1 in the league.

Manhattan's offensive outburst started in the 13th minute when sophomore Arianna Montefusco (Levittown, NY / General Douglas MacArthur) found a streaking Modena, who easily beat the goalkeeper on a 1v1 opportunity. 

In the 20th minute, Montefusco was fouled in the box and Modena converted the penalty kick before executing another penalty kick opportunity in the 26th minute after junior Caroline Taylor (Glen Rock, NJ / Glen Rock) also drew a foul in the box.

Junior Annie Doerr (Pittsford, NJ / Our Lady of Mercy) extended the lead out to 4-0 in the 38th minute with her first career goal with freshman Lindsey Healy (Sussex, NJ / Pope John XXIII Regional) notching the assist.

After halftime, freshman Bri DeLeo (Harriman, NY / Monroe-Woodbury) capped the scoring with her first career goal in the 60th minute.

Junior Kelly DiGregorio (Centerreach, NY / St. Anthony's) secured the win, making one save in 67:57 of action with sophomore Camryn Nici (Seaford, NY / St. Anthony's) completing the shutout.

- Modena's previous hat trick came in a 3-0 win at Lafayette on September 6, 2015.

- She now has 30 career goals to move into a tie with Lisa Margiotta '96 for second place in the all-time Jasper annals.

- In her career, Modena also has 11 assists, eight game-winning scores and four multi-goal performances.

- Manhattan, which has won five-of-six, has had Modena record at least one point in all six matches.

- The Jaspers' six home wins are the most since 2006.

- During MAAC play, Manhattan is 4-0 at home while outscoring the opposition by a 14-2 count.
