Hamden, CT - Junior Zavier Turner (Indianapolis, IN / Ball State) scored 23 points with six assists while classmate Zane Waterman (Winston-Salem, NC / Fayetteville Academy) added 17 points but it wasn't enough as Quinnipiac defeated Manhattan 81-72 at the TD Bank Sports Center.
The Bobcats improve to 6-9 and 3-2 in the MAAC while the Jaspers fall to 5-10 and 0-5 in the league.
Junior Samson Usilo (Lagos, Nigeria / Nazareth (NY)) also had a big game with a career-high 12 points and 11 rebounds en route to posting the first Manhattan double-double of the year with classmate Zavier Peart (Miami, FL / Eastern Florida State) pulling down a career-high 10 caroms.
Trailing 57-49 with 12:36 to play, Manhattan used a methodical 9-2 run over the next 3:29 to make in a one-point game at 58-57 with 9:07 remaining following a Peart jumper. After Quinnipiac briefly answered with a jumper, Waterman split a pair at the line. With it still a one possession game, the Jaspers appeared poised to tie the game following a Bobcats miscue only to turn it over the ensuing end.
Quinnipiac canned a pair at the line as it wouldn't be a single-possession game for the Manhattan offense the rest of the way.
The Jaspers had another outstanding game on the glass to the tune of posting a 44-36 rebounding advantage, including 21-9 on the offensive end, and registered a 19-5 margin on second-chance points on the afternoon.
Mikey Dixon had 23 points and seven assists while Peter Kiss chipped in with 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way for the Bobcats.
Manhattan will next host Niagara on Tuesday, January 10 with opening tip tabbed for 7:00 pm.
