NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Manhattan College men's and women's swimming & diving teams concluded the regular season with a dual meet against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival Iona at the Hynes Pool on Saturday afternoon.  The Iona women notched a 182-79 victory, while the Jasper men fell by a 200-80 count.  Despite the losses, Manhattan finished the regular season with a 7-4 record on the men's side.  The women's team posted a regular season mark of 6-6.

Alexandra Hutzler (Miller Place, NY) led a pair of 1-2 finishes for the Jaspers in the women's breaststroke events.  She won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.42, while Klaudia Nagrabska (Belmont, MA) took second in 1:11.98.  In the 200 breaststroke, Hutzler's winning time was 2:34.20.  Audrey Corcoran (West Boylston, MA) finished second in 2:37.92 and Nagrabska was third in 2:40.28.  Hutzler also placed third in the 200 yard individual medley (2:19.44).

Kali Nembach (Lynbrook, NY) earned the win in the 100 yard freestyle with a 56.58-second clocking.  She swam the 50 yard freestyle in 25.68 seconds to place third overall.  Megan Pagano (Lagrangeville, NY), meanwhile, took second in the 200 yard backstroke (2:21.98) to go along with a third-place showing in the 100 backstroke (1:06.30).

On the men's side, Matthew Broadmeadow (Seekonk, MA) won both diving events.  He scored 180.60 points on the 1-meter board and nearly broke the 3-meter school record with 203.80 points.

In addition, Timothy Valentine (Massapequa, NY) took first in the 100 breaststroke (59.19) and third in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.02).  Rich Llewellyn (East Islip, NY) grabbed second place in the 200 yard butterfly (2:01.58), and Evan Battisti (East Meadow, NY) was second in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:05.92).  Neil Perry (Elkridge, MD), meanwhile, captured second place in the 50 freestyle (22.21) and took third in the 100 yard butterfly (54.02).

“It was a great effort by everyone against a tough MAAC opponent today,” Head Coach Joe Murtha said.  “We focused on fine-tuning our race strategies for our MAAC events, and I saw a lot of promising signs.  We are going to continue tapering over the next 10 days in preparation for the Championships.”

After a week off, the Jaspers will head to Buffalo for the annual MAAC Championships.  The four-day competition gets underway on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
