BRONX, NY – Allie Yamashiro (Kapolei, HI) recorded her 2,000th career dig on Wednesday night, becoming just the second player in the history of the Manhattan College volleyball program to reach that milestone. She finished with nine digs on the night, but it was not enough for the Jaspers (0-4), who dropped the “Battle of the Bronx” 25-15, 25-15, 26-24, to Fordham (3-1) at Rose Hill Gym.
Yamashiro entered the match with 1,997 digs and hit the 2,000-mark late in the first set. She now has 2,006 career digs, just seven shy of all-time program leader Ashley Watson (2004-07), and will get her first shot at breaking the record against Central Connecticut State on Friday night.

Fordham scored the first three points of the match before Manhattan pulled within 5-4 on an Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, VA) service ace. However, the Rams responded with a 12-2 spurt to go up 17-6. Fordham used another four-point rally to increase its lead to 11 points, 24-13, and the Rams took the opening set by a 25-15 count.
The Rams carried that momentum into the second set, opening up an 11-1 advantage. After three straight Manhattan points made it 11-4, Morgan Williams served three consecutive aces to increase Fordham's cushion to 15-4. The Jaspers got within six at 19-13, but the Rams closed the set on a 6-2 rally to close out a 25-15 win.
In the third set, it was Manhattan that jumped out to the early lead, going up 5-0 and 7-1. After Fordham rattled off nine straight points to take a 10-7 advantage, the Jaspers responded with nine of the next 13 to pull back in front, 16-14. A 9-3 Fordham spurt gave the Rams a 23-20 cushion, but Manhattan rallied to tie the score at 24-24 on a Rehrer ace. However, a Breanna Jones kill brought Fordham to match point, and the Rams finished off a 3-0 match victory by claiming a 26-24 set win.
Olyvia Chaltas (Temecula, CA) came off the bench to slam a team-high seven kills, and she also served two aces. Casey Monroe (Riverview, FL) contributed five kills and two blocks, while Rehrer had 10 digs to go along with three aces. Taylor Hasley (Memphis, TN) handed out 15 assists for the Jaspers, who hit .045 (20 kills, 16 errors, 89 attempts) as a team.
For the Rams, Olivia Fairchild led the way with 13 kills to go along with four blocks and three aces. Kaitlin Morley and Jones both finished just shy of a double-double. Morley tallied 10 kills and nine digs, while Jones collected nine kills and 11 digs. Kristen Ostach, meanwhile, hit .636, smashing eight kills while committing just one error, and Maddy Welsh distributed 39 assists. Elise Benjamin had six blocks and Morgan Williams registered 16 digs, as Fordham outdug Manhattan 47-35. As a team, the Rams hit .262 (46-18-107) in the match.
On Friday night, the Jaspers begin action at the Hartford Invitational with a 4:30 p.m. matchup against Central Connecticut State (3-0). Manhattan will then face the host Hawks (0-4) and Rhode Island (0-3) on Saturday.
