Riverdale, NY - Senior Erica Modena's (Massapequa, NY / Massapequa) goal in the 84th minute lifted Manhattan to a thrilling 2-1 win over LIU Brooklyn in non-conference action at Gaelic Park.

Modena's decisive goal was the 20th of her career while helping the Jaspers improve to 1-1 with the Blackbirds falling to 0-2.
Earning her first collegiate win was freshman Olivia Printy (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL / St. Joseph Academy), who turned away seven shots, including an impressive stop late in the second half with the score tied at 1-1.
Manhattan opened the scoring in the 13th when senior Lizzy Carlson (Auburn, MA / Auburn) deposited a penalty kick into the lower right corner of the goal. LIU Brooklyn quickly responded just over three minutes later when Madison Gomez blasted a shot into the back of the net from 25 yards out.
While the teams would play the rest of the first half and most of the second without a score, senior Jenny Bitzer (Messstetten, Germany / Louisiana Tech) almost turned in the play of the year with a bicycle kick then just went left of the goal in the 81st minute.
After knocking on the door most of the second half, Modena finally broke through for the Jaspers when she picked up a loose ball near midfield and raced up the right side before lofting the ball into the left side of the net.
Aline Allmann (0-2) was saddled with the loss, allowing two goals despite making six saves.
Both teams registered eight shots on goal with Manhattan holding a slim 3-2 edge on corner kicks.
The Jaspers next open play at the TD Bank Classic hosted by Vermont with a neutral site match-up against New Hampshire on Friday, August 26 at 4:30 pm.
