Manhattan Drops Exhibition Match To St. John's

Queens, NY - The Manhattan Men's Soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to St. John's in exhibition action at Belson Stadium.

"For our first game of the year, I was really impressed with our performance and play," said head coach Jorden Scott. "We managed to get everyone on the field against top competition and it will help us down the road."

The Jaspers struck first in the 35th minute when senior Ajani Phillips (South River, NJ / St. Peter's Prep) scored off a pass from senior Niels Kirch (Zülpich, Germany / Virginia Tech) to take a 1-0 lead.

The Red Storm rallied with a pair of goals in the final seven minutes to rally for the aforementioned 2-1 victory.

St. John's outshot Manhattan 17-5, while holding a 6-0 advantage on corner kicks. The Jaspers notched four saves in between the pipes.

The two squads played three 30-minute periods instead of the traditional 45-minute halves.

Manhattan will play its second exhibition match against Monroe College on Wednesday, August 17 at 7:00 pm.
