New York, NY - Junior Jose Carrera (Miami, FL / St. Brendan) and freshman Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) each had three hits to pace Manhattan in a 14-12 loss at Columbia.
The Jaspers fall to 13-25 while the Lions improve to 14-23.
Manhattan opened the scoring with five runs in the third inning while batting around as junior Jason Patnick (Hopewell, NJ / IMG Academy (FL)) and Pena each delivered a pair of two-out, two-run hits to highlight the frame.
Columbia quickly answered with four runs in the bottom part of the inning.
The Jaspers got one run back in the fourth when sophomore Ryan Gronlier (Doral, FL / Doral Academy) led off with a single before coming around to score on a wild pitch.
In the top of the fifth, Patnick would plate Pena with a RBI ground out in extending the Manhattan advantage to 7-4.
In the bottom part of the inning, Columbia took its first lead of the game at 10-7 with six runs as Shane Adams provided the big blast with a pinch-hit grand slam.
The Jaspers would trim the deficit to one in their next trip to the plate but get no closer in falling by the aforementioned 14-12 count.
Carrera was 3-for-5 with three runs, two doules, a RBi and a stolen base while Pena finished up 3-for-4 with his team-leading 16th double, four RBI and two runs. Senior Christian Santisteban (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep), Patnick and Gronlier all also notched multiple-hits to round out the top performers on offense.
Manhattan returns to action with a doubleheader against Fairfield on Saturday, April 30 with first pitch slated for 12:00 pm at Dutchess Stadium.
