Riverdale, NY – Fueled by a 7-1 first-half run, Siena spoiled Senior Night for Manhattan by a 16-11 count at Gaelic Park.
The Saints improve to 3-8 and 2-3 in the MAAC while the Jaspers fall to 3-11 and 1-4 in the league.
Prior to the game, seniors Jack Fowler (Bethesda, MD / St. John's College), Alex Gitlitz (Centerport, NY / Chaminade), Alex Karlis (Branchburg, NJ / Somerville), Jimmy Rogers (Annapolis, MD / DeMatha) and Nick Strano (Rocky Point, NY / Rocky Point) were honored in a brief ceremony.
After Siena opened the scoring, junior Alex Abiog (Saratoga, CA / Bellarmine College Prep) found the back of the net before Fowler and sophomore Zach Mermelstein (Pelham, NY / The Hill Academy) each scored to give Manhattan a 3-1 lead.
The teams then traded goals before Siena embarked on the aforementioned 7-1 spurt in grabbing a 9-5 lead with 8:54 to play until halftime.
Junior Matt Garvey (Essex Falls, NJ / West Essex) quelled the run with a goal off a pass from freshman Christian Baldi (Wilmington, DE / Salesianum) in making the score 9-6 at the break.
Sophomore Chris Sammarro (Mountain Lakes, NJ / Mountain Lakes) opened the second-half scoring with an unassisted tally in bringing the Jaspers to within two at 9-7 with just over 11 minutes to play in the third period.
The teams then traded scores with freshman Parker Giarratana (Delray, FL / Boca Raton Community) made it a 10-8 game after three periods.
Unfortunately, the Saints opened the fourth quarter with four-straight goals in grabbing a 14-8 advantage.
Garvey, Giarratana and Mermelstein would all score over the final 7:29 but it wouldn't be enough as Siena registered a 16-11 win.
Giarratana led the offense with a team-high three goals and now has 30 on the year while also adding an assist.
Freshman Nicholas Clayton (Sparta, NJ / Sparta) led all players with six ground balls while sophomore Michael Zingaro (Cortlandt Manor, NY / Walter Panas) had 11 saves.
Chris Robertson paced the Saints with a game-high five goals.
Manhattan will conclude its season at Quinnipiac on Saturday, April 30 with opening face-off slated for 12:00 pm.
