Friday Recap

PRINCETON, NJ – The Manhattan College men's and women's track & field teams concluded competition at the Larry Ellis Invitational from Princeton University's Weaver Stadium on Saturday.  The Jaspers had several solid performances, highlighted by Tom Bonaro's (Pearl River, NY) IC4A-qualifying effort in the 800 meters.

Bonaro won his heat and placed ninth overall with a time of 1:53.94.  Stefan Hoeller (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany), meanwhile, just missed qualifying for the IC4A Championships in the 400 meter hurdles.  He finished 16th overall with a 54.42-second clocking.

Hayden Clarke (Townsville, Australia) got out to a distance of 7.14 meters (23 feet, 5¼ inches) in the long jump, which was good for fourth place.  Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia) added a ninth-place showing in the discus.  His best mark was 47.21 m (154'11).

On the women's side, the Jaspers were led by Ellinor Persson (Taby, Sweden).  She took fourth in the long jump with a 5.71 m (18'9) leap.  Persson also placed 21st in the 100 meter hurdles (14.97).  Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany) finished sixth in the long jump (5.55 m, 18'2½), while Marisa Robbins (Goshen, NY) cleared 3.40 m (11'1¾) to secure ninth place in the pole vault.

It was also a successful day on the track for the women's team.  Erin Spadaccini (Wilmington, DE) won her heat in the 800 meters.  Her time of 2:15.92 was good for 10th place overall.  Manhattan also had two top-10 finishers in the 3000 meters.  Lisa Fajardo (Brooklyn, NY) grabbed fourth place in 10:09.55, and Keeley Hogan (Delmar, NY) finished ninth in 10:17.79.

Next weekend, the Jaspers will be in action at a pair of meets.  Manhattan will send a handful of competitors to the 122nd Penn Relays, while the remainder of the squad will take part in the TCNJ Lions Invitational.  The meets represent the Jaspers' final tune-ups before the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships on May 7-8.
