Madison, NJ – Manhattan scored the first six goals and never looked back en route to posting a dominating 14-5 win over NJIT.
With the win, the Jaspers improve to 2-9 while the Highlanders fall to 1-11.
Freshman
Parker Giarratana (Delray, FL / Boca Raton Community) matched a career-high with five goals to pace an offensive effort that scored its most goals since also recording 14 in a one-goal win over Marist on March 29, 2014.
Manhattan scored the first six goals of the game and led 7-2 at the break thanks to four Giarratana goals and two from sophomore
Conor Darby (Havermill, MA / Assumption).
The second half was more of the same as freshman
Cole Johnson (Dexter, NY / General Brown) opened the scoring before Giarratana and junior
Matt Garvey (Essex Fells, NJ / West Essex) found the back of the net in pushing the advantage out to 10-3 after three periods.
After NJIT cut the lead in half 10-5 with a pair of goals, sophomore goalie
Michael Zingaro (Cortland Manor, NY / Walter Panas) got into the action with his first career goal while sparking a game-ending 4-0 spurt.
Darby and Johnson joined Giarratana with hat tricks, finishing with three goals apiece.
Despite the nine-goal margin of victory, the Jaspers were outshot by a 55-31 margin with Zingaro, who leads the nation in saves, making a career-high 21 saves. The 21 stops are also tied for the third-most in the nation this year.
Senior
Jack Fowler (Bethesda, MD / St. John's College) was also outstanding, winning 11-of-16 face-offs.
Manhattan returns to action on Saturday, April 9 at MAAC foe Canisius with opening face-off slated for 3:00 pm in Buffalo.
