West Point, NY - Manhattan used a total team performance to defeat Army West Point 3-2 in non-conference action.

The Jaspers improve to 9-19 with their second-straight win while the Black Knights fall to 12-21.

After stranding a pair of runners in the top of the first, Manhattan opened the scoring in the third with a single run. Junior Joe Credendino (Wappingers Falls, NY / OCC) led off with a single before moving to second on a Jose Carrera (Jr., Miami, FL / St. Brendan) sacrifice bunt. Credendino then scored on Richie Barrella's (Fr., Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) second infield single of the game to give the visitors an early 1-0 advantage.

The Jaspers added to the lead with another run in the top of the fourth. Sophomore Michael Pfenninger (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) led off with his team-leading fourth triple of the year and would score on the next pitch as junior Jason Patnick (Hopewell, NJ / IMG Academy (FL)) laced a single to left field to extend the lead out to 2-0.

Carrera then manufactured the third run of the game in the fifth as he led off with a single before moving to third on an errant pick-off and scampered home on a wild pitch in staking the visitors to a 3-0 lead.

Senior Michael Scarinci (Nanuet, NY / Pearl River) kept Army West Point off the board over the first five innings before the Black Knights scored a pair of sixth-innings in trimming the deficit to 3-2.

Over the final three frames, the relief trio of Joe Jacques (Jr., Shrewsbury, NJ / Red Bank Regional), Tom Cosgrove (So., Staten Island, NY / Farrell) and Shawn Kanwisher (Jr., Washington Township, NJ / St. Joseph Regional) scattered just one walk in closing out the victory.

Pfenninger was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run while Barrella went 2-for-4 with a RBi to pace the Manhattan attack.

Scarinci (1-1) struck out three while yielding two runs on four hits and and a walk over 5.1 innings of work while Kanwisher converted his second save.

The Jaspers will look to make it two in a row at Hofstra on Wednesday, April 13 with opening pitch slated for 3:00 pm.
