Box Score Riverdale, NY - Delaware scored twice in the final 3:21 to rally for a 6-5 victory over Manhattan at Gaelic Park.
The Blue Hens improve to 2-5 while the Jaspers fall to 0-6.
Despite the defeat, freshman Parker Giarratana (Delray, FL / Boca Raton Community) turned in another outstanding performance with two goals an assist. Sophomore Michael Zingaro (Cortland Manor, NY / Walter Panas) was stellar between the pipes, notching 11 saves while keeping Delaware off the board in the first and third quarters.
Giarratana scored the lone goal in the first quarter off a pass from sophomore Chris Sammarro (Mountain Lakes, NJ / Mountain Lakes) before finding the back of the net just nine seconds into the second off a feed from senior Jack Fowler to stake Manhattan to the early 2-0 lead.
The Blue Hens fought back with a pair of goals before junior Matt Garvey (Essex Falls, NJ / West Exxex) reclaimed the lead for the Jaspers when he bounced one past Parker Ferrigan at the 5:47 mark of the second quarter. Unfortunately, Joe Eisele was able to answer for Delaware with a strike to knot it up at 3-3.
In the third period, junior Nick Stutler (Ft. Wright, KY / Covington Catholic) registered the only goal of the stanza at the 1:01 mark. Midway through the fourth, Connor Frisina tied up the game for the Blue Hens before Manhattan quickly reclaimed the lead just over a minute with an Alex Abiog (Jr., Saratoga, CA / Bellarmine College Prep) score.
Unfortunately, Delaware fought back to score the final two goals and escape Riverdale with the one-goal victory. Senior Jack Fowler (Bethesda, MD / St. John's College) also had a solid game, winning seven face-offs with four ground balls against a Blue Hen squad that defeated the Jaspers by seven goals a year ago.
Eisele paced the Delaware attack with three goals.
Manhattan returns to action at UMass Lowell on Saturday, March 12 with opening face-off slated for 1:00 pm.
