Riverdale, NY - Monmouth scored five-straight goals in the first half en route to posting a 10-5 win over Manhattan at Gaelic Park.
The Hawks improve to 5-3 and 1-1 in the MAAC while the Jaspers fall to 1-9 and 0-2 in the league.
Monmouth opened the scoring before 2x MAAC Rookie of the Week
Parker Giarratana (Fr., Delray, FL / Boca Raton Community) tied it up at 1-1.
The Hawks then registered the aforementioned 5-0 run before junior
Alex Abiog (Saratoga, CA / Bellarmine College Prep) scored his first goal of the game to halt the spurt and trim the deficit to 6-2 at the half.
After trading goals in the third period, Monmouth extended the lead out to 9-3 with two more scores before freshman
Cole Johnson (Dexter, NY / General Brown) found the back of the net. Abiog then registered his third goal of the game off a pass from junior
Matt Garvey (Essex Falls, NJ / West Essex) to cut the lead to 9-5 with 5:30 to play but could get in closer.
The Hawks would tally one more score in providing the final 10-5 margin.
Sophomore
Michael Zingaro (Cortland Manor, NY / Walter Panas) made ten saves in defeat.
Chris Daly led Monmouth with four goals while Nick Hreshko made four saves in earning the victory.
Manhattan returns to action on Saturday, April 2 at NJIT with opening face-off slated for 4:00 pm.
