The Hawks opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first while batting around before adding another single score in the second.
Manhattan rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the third while trimming the deficit to 4-2. Carrera led off with a double and Genners followed with bunt single before immediately stealing second. Carrera came around to score on a
Fabian Pena's (Fr., Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) RBI ground out while Genners crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
Hartford would answer with three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth in jumping in front 8-2.
The Jaspers would rally in the bottom of the eighth as Carrera led off with his second double before Genners drew a four-pitch walk. The duo would swipe second-and-third before Carrera scampered home on a wild pitch. Unfortunately, that would be all Manhattan would get as Sebastian DiMauro induced an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded.
Four different Hartford players recorded multiple hits with the visitors rapping out 11 on the afternoon. Justin Cashman (1-0) earned the win, striking out two over 2.0 innings of one-hit ball while DiMauro recorded a five-out save, his second of the year.
