Jaspers Topped By Fordham In Final Fall Dual Meet

BRONX, NY – On Wednesday evening, the Manhattan College men's and women's swimming & diving teams headed across town for the “Battle of the Bronx” against Fordham.  The Jasper men fell to the Rams by a 153-109 count, while the Fordham women earned a 172-75 victory at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.

The school record fell in the men's 1-meter diving competition.  Dylan Cooney (Port Jervis, NY) tallied 231.08 points to break his own mark and finish third in the competition.  Matthew Broadmeadow (Seekonk, MA) collected 230.55 points, which was also better than Cooney's previous record.

In the pool, Evan Battisti (East Meadow, NY) finished first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:49.42) and took second in the 500 yard freestyle (4:56.71).  Timothy Valentine (Massapequa, NY), meanwhile, won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:01.44 and placed second in the 50 breaststroke with a 28.33-second clocking.  In addition, Tyler McCloskey (Orangeburg, NY) was fourth in the 100 yard butterfly (56.40) and Peter Hubbell (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) captured fourth place in the 50 yard freestyle (23.01).

Leading the way for the women's squad was Klaudia Nagrabska (Belmont, MA), who finished third in the 50 breaststroke (33.11) and fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.86).  Patricia Colton (Washingtonville, NY) (26.12) and Kali Nembach (Lynbrook, NY) (26.32) went 3-4 in the 50 freestyle, and Colton added a fourth-place showing in the 100 freestyle (57.75).  Yvonne Corcoran (West Boylston, MA), meanwhile, took fourth in the 500 freestyle with a 5:44.32 clocking.

“It was great to see our fifth school record go down this season,” Head Coach Joe Murtha said.  “I am very pleased with our performances this first semester.  Tonight was a nice little test to see how they would respond to a faster-paced meet with minimal rest, and I think we did well.  We have a good idea of what we need to work on over the next five weeks before our next competition.”
