WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Manhattan College men's and women's swimming & diving teams hit the road for the first time since the season opener on Saturday afternoon, going against host Monmouth, as well as the Siena women at Steadman Natatorium.  The Jasper men came away with a 168-90 victory over the Hawks, while the women's team earned a split, defeating Monmouth 150-92 and falling to Siena by a 176-80 count.

Neil Perry (Elkridge, MD) won three different events to pace the men's squad.  He took first in both the 50 (21.82) and 100 yard freestyle (51.46), while also earning the victory in the 200 yard individual medley (2:05.82).  In addition, Perry anchored the Jaspers' 200 yard medley relay team that posted a winning time of 1:40.61.

Timothy Valentine (Massapequa, NY), who joined Perry in the medley relay, recorded a pair of individual wins, as well.  He won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:00.85, and his 2:14.52 clocking in the 200 yard backstroke was also good for first place.  Christopher Reyes (Queens, NY), who swam on both winning relay teams, was victorious individually in the 100 yard butterfly (53.65).  Evan Battisti (East Meadow, NY), meanwhile, took first in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:25.16), and Tyler Dalton (East Stroudsburg, PA) was the winner in the 200 yard freestyle (1:51.77).

Rich Llewellyn (East Islip, NY) dominated both the 200 yard butterfly (1:59.82) and 500 yard freestyle (5:04.96).  He later anchored the 200 yard freestyle relay to secure his third win of the day, as Manhattan moved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponents.

“I saw some great things from the men today in their races,” Head Coach Joe Murtha said.  “They are showing a lot of confidence heading into the ECAC Championships.  I am excited to see what this team can do over the next couple of weeks.”

On the women's side, Kali Nembach (Lynbrook, NY) won the 50 freestyle (25.92) and took second in the 100 freestyle (56.26), just 0.02 seconds out of first.  Alexandra Hutzler (Miller Place, NY) had a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.68) and 200 individual medley (2:21.17) to go along with a third-place showing in the 200 breaststroke (2:38.37).

Megan Pagano (Lagrangeville, NY), who placed fourth in the 200 IM, also grabbed second place in the 200 backstroke (2:20.54) and third in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.42).  Yvonne Corcoran (West Boylston, MA) was second in the 1000 freestyle (11:29.14), while Cassandra Rubino (Thiells, NY) contributed a pair of third-place showings in the 100 (1:03.90) and 200 butterfly (2:26.26).

“We had some very good swims today,” Murtha said.  “Several of the women were able to pull out some close wins to help put us over the top.  Everyone has been working very hard all season, and the team is looking forward to finally getting some rest in preparation for the ECAC Championships.”

This marked Manhattan's last competition before the annual ECAC Winter Championships, which will be held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center from Dec. 2-4.
