RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan College women's swimming & diving team had perhaps its most impressive performance of the season so far on Saturday afternoon. The Jaspers won all 11 events en route to a dominant 79-35 dual meet victory over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival Saint Peter's at the Ethical & Cultural Fieldston School. The men's meet was much closer, with Manhattan earning a 106-99 win.
Manhattan's women set the tone right away, going 1-2 in the 200 yard medley relay. Individally, Alexandra Hutzler (Miller Place, NY) earned a pair of victories in the 50 yard freestyle (25.90) and 100 yard butterfly (1:00.20). Kali Nembach (Lynbrook, NY) also won both of her individual events. She had the best time in the 200 yard individual medley (2:21.08) and the 100 yard freestyle (57.59). Kathryn Voitik (Moscow, PA) finished the 200 yard freestyle in 2:05.97, and she was also the top finisher in the 500 yard freestyle (5:36.15).
Megan Pagano (Lagrangeville, NY), meanwhile, put up a time of 1:05.69 in the 100 yard backstroke. Klaudia Nagrabska (Belmont, NY) registered a 1:11.65 clocking in the 100 yard breaststroke, and Abie DeLisio (Woodstock, NY) won the 1000 yard freestyle in 11:30.39.
“We had an opportunity today to move some people around and mix up the lineup a little bit,” Head Coach Joe Murtha said. “I am really happy with the performance of the women today, and they have given me a lot of things to consider moving forward in terms of relays and events.”
On the men's side, Neil Perry (Elkridge, MD) earned wins in both the 50 (21.58) and 100 freestyle (48.38). His 50 freestyle time was the second-best in the MAAC this season. Rich Llewellyn (East Islip, NY) tied for first in the 100 butterfly (54.07) to go along with a second-place showing in the 200 freestyle (1:54.60).
In the 200 individual medley, Tyler McCloskey (Orangeburg, NY) (2:03.90), Timothy Valentine (Massapequa, NY) (2:04.50) and Tyler Dalton (East Stroudsburg, PA) (2:04.66) swept the first three places. Valentine (59.47) and Dalton (1:03.42) then went 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke, with Will Kulp (New Fairfield, CT) finishing third in 1:05.84.
“There were some great swims by the men today, and we were able to pull out the victory thanks to a few key races,” Murtha said. “We had several season best times throughout the day, all of which were important in the win.”
Next Saturday, Manhattan will host its annual Alumni Meet at 2 p.m. The Jaspers will take on St. Francis Brooklyn, while the men's team will also go against NJIT.
