RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan College volleyball team concluded its non-conference schedule by welcoming Fairleigh Dickinson to Draddy Gymnasium on Wednesday night.  Playing at home for the only time in a five-match stretch, the Jaspers (6-16) enjoyed the comforts of the familiar surroundings, snapping their four-match losing streak with a 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 victory over the Knights (2-21).

After the sides traded points early in the first set, the Jaspers used a 5-0 run to turn a 12-12 tie into a 17-12 advantage.  The Knights countered with seven of the next eight points to go up 19-18 before a Mary Donnelly (Temecula, CA) kill started a 5-1 Manhattan rally and force a Fairleigh Dickinson timeout.  Milena Janjusevic (Belgrade, Serbia) put away a kill to bring the Jaspers to set point, and she slammed another one to close out the frame, 25-22.

Consecutive Janjusevic service aces highlighted a 5-2 Manhattan spurt to open the second set, and the Jaspers increased their cushion to 11-6 on an Ivana Kostic (Grocka, Serbia) kill.  Fairleigh Dickinson slowly chipped away at the advantage, though, and took a 19-17 lead on back-to-back aces by Erika Sullivan.  After the Jaspers pulled even at 21-21, Manhattan went back in front on a block by Janjusevic and Marissa Behrens (Honolulu, HI).  A Janjusevic kill and an FDU hitting error followed, bringing the Jaspers to set point.  And Behrens capped the 6-0 rally with a block that clinched the set, 25-21.

Fairleigh Dickinson jumped out to a 10-7 lead early in the third set, and the Knights were in front 17-13 when Manhattan went on a 3-0 run to trim its deficit to one.  After Fairleigh Dickinson brought the margin back to three at 21-18, Zoe Lindsey (McHenry, IL) was credited with a kill to start a five-point Jaspers rally.  Behrens had a pair of kills in the run, which also included a Sandra Lozanova (Pernik, Bulgaria) kill and a Janjusevic ace.  Another Janjusevic kill set up match point, and Manhattan took the final stanza by a 25-22 count to wrap up its second sweep of the year.

Janjusevic finished with a match-high 11 kills, and she also tallied three aces.  Behrens hit .444 in the match, smacking nine kills on just one error in 18 attempts.  She added four blocks.  Kostic, meanwhile, registered six kills and two aces.  Taylor Hasley (Memphis, TN) got the start at setter and handed out 24 assists, while Lindsey contributed 13 assists off the bench.  Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, VA) and Allie Yamashiro (Kapolei, HI) collected 14 digs apiece, as the Jaspers outdug the Knights 48-46.  Manhattan hit .197 (45-20-127) as a team.

Carly O'Sullivan led Fairleigh Dickinson with eight kills and added 12 digs.  Caroline Laton, meanwhile, finished with seven kills and six blocks for the Knights.  Josephine Gallagher recorded 13 digs and eight assists, and Kirstin Trabert distributed 14 assists.  Savanna Wray added 10 digs, while Sullivan served four aces.  As a team, the Knights hit .100 (29-19-100) in the match.

Manhattan resumes its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) slate on Saturday with a 1 p.m. matchup at Rider (9-11, 3-5 MAAC).  The Jaspers (2-6 MAAC) posted a straight-sets victory over the Broncs when the teams met in Riverdale on Sept. 28.
