Riverdale, NY - Manhattan posted a thrilling 92-87 triple-overtime victory over Siena at Draddy Gymnasium in front an ESPN3 audience.
With with the win, the Jaspers improve to 5-8 and 2-2 in the MAAC while avenging an earlier 35-point loss to the Saints, which fall to 9-6 and 2-2 in the league.
Senior Shane Richards (New York, NY / York Prep) scored seven of his team-high 21 points in the final overtime session to lead a Manhattan squad that placed five student-athletes in double-figures for the first time this season.
In the pivotal final session, junior Rich Williams (Brooklyn, NY / Vermont Academy (VT)) opened the scoring with a tip-in before Richards canned his third triple of the game to put the Jaspers up 84-79 with 4:01 to play.
Siena would continue to fight and trim the deficit to one at 88-87 with 1:03 remaining following a Ryan Oliver three pointer. Richards then grabbed an offensive rebound on the ensuing possession before converting on the second chance to make it a three-point game with 15 seconds remaining. Richards then capped his big-play trifecta with a steal before calmly draining a pair at the line to cap the Jaspers' 92-87 victory.
Richards finished up with his 12th career 20-point performance while going 6-of-12 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from deep, and a perfect 6-of-6 from the line with seven rebounds and four assists over 50 minutes of action.
Manhattan, which has now won six-straight at home against Siena, will look to make it three in a row on Thursday, January 7 at Canisius with opening tip on ESPN3 slated for 7:00 pm.
