BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's soccer team dropped a Labor Day evening affair to Binghamton, 1-0, at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

A 69th minute strike by Bearcats' freshman Kristian Piippo proved to be the difference, as Binghamton maintained a clean sheet en route to the squad's second win of the 2015 campaign.

Manhattan falls to 0-3 in the early portion of the fall, while Binghamton improves to 2-1.

Binghamton senior Tucker Sandercock provided the service on Piippo's goal, as the forward crossed the ball from just outside the right part of the area. His line drive cross squeezed through a couple of Manhattan defenders and found Piippo just inside twelve yards out. The freshman blasted the ball past Manhattan freshman goalkeeper R.J. Noll (Yelm, Wash. / Yelm) to give Binghamton a 1-0 edge. After a nice run up the field, junior Logan Roberts was also credited with an assist on the play.

Approximately one and one half minutes before the goal was scored, Binghamton had a golden opportunity. After a scramble in front of Noll was cleared near the top of the 18-yard box, Sandercock headed a ball goalward that was subsequently headed off the line and over the top of the Manhattan net by sophomore defender Joe Hulme (Bolton, Lancashire, England / St. Joseph's Roman Catholic), leading to a Bearcats corner.

Despite a few late chances, the Jaspers could not find a way to level the score.

Freshman Adam Weisberger's (Englishtown, N.J. / Manalapan) shot in the 87th minute was Manhattan's best opportunity to find an equalizer in the closing stages of the match, but his effort was blocked by the left hand of Bearcats' junior goalkeeper Robert Moewes and went out of play for a Jaspers corner.

Manhattan will endure a long break before its next game, which is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 16, when the squad will host Central Connecticut for a 7 p.m. match at Gaelic Park. The contest will be streamed live on the Jasper Sports Network (JSN).
