WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army West Point scored five runs in the first inning and never trailed en route to posting an 8-4 win over Manhattan in non-conference action at Johnson Stadium.
Despite the loss, the Jaspers (9-22) outhit the Black Knights (17-17) 10-8.
Sophomore Matt Forlow (Cold Spring, N.Y. / Haldane) and freshman Brendan Bisset (New City, N.Y. / Don Bosco Prep) each reached safely three time, with two hits and a walk, to lead the way for the visitors.
After Manhattan left a pair of runners on the bases in the top of the first, Army West Point scored five runs while sending 10 batters to the plate.
After leaving the bases loaded in the third, the Jaspers finally broke through in the fourth. Bisset delivered the first of his two hits with a single to left field before moving to second on a ground out. Sophomore Evan Brown (Ashburnham, Mass. / Bridgton Academy (Maine)) then plated Bisset with a two-out RBI single to trim the deficit to 5-1.
Army West Point added to the lead with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth in going in front 8-1.
The Jaspers got those three runs back in the top of the seventh on a Joe McClennan (Sr., Highland Mills, N.Y. / Cornwall Central) RBI fielder's choice grounder before senior Chris Kalousdian (Fort Salonga, N.Y. / Kings Park) delivered a two-run single in providing the final 8-4 count.
Brown and junior Christian Santisteban (Miami, Fla. / Gulliver Prep) each also notched multi-hits while Kalousdian hit safely for the eighth time in 10 games to round out the top performers for the Manhattan.
Alex Dickerson paced Army, going 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
Junior LHP Casey Meyers (Brookside, N.J. / Mendham) paced the pitching staff with three strikeouts over 2.0 innings of relief.
The Jaspers return home to host Hofstra on Wednesday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Dutchess Stadium.
