ARLINGTON, Va. - The Manhattan baseball team split Sunday's doubleheader with George Washington, salvaging the final game of the weekend while earning its second win of 2015.

Courtesy of a very steady outing from starting senior righthander Scott McClennan (Highland Hills, N.Y. / Cornwall), the Jaspers earned a 10-3 victory in game two. McClennan dealt eight innings, allowing one unearned run on six hits. He walked one and struck out one. The senior improved to 1-2.

Manhattan dropped game one, 8-4. With the split, the Colonials move to 7-3. The Jaspers conclude the series at 2-9 overall.

Game Two Recap:
Manhattan benefited from nine extra base hits in the contest and provided more than enough support for McClennan, who was very strong.

The Jaspers first got on the board in the fourth, when they scored three runs. Senior Mikey Miranda (Miami, Fla. / Florida Christian) led off the frame by reaching first after being hit by a 3-0 pitch. Senior Vin Teixeira (Hamden, Conn., Hamden Hall Country Day) followed with a four-pitch walk to set up first and second with no outs. Junior Chris Reynolds (Wall, N.J. / St. Rose) signled to left, scoring Miranda to give Manhattan the 1-0 led. Teixeira advanced to third and Reynolds reached second on an error by the left fielder. Two batters after the subsequent pitching change, senior Joe McClennan (Highland Mills, N.Y. / Cornwall) tripled to left center. Both Teixeira and Reynolds scored on the play, giving the Jaspers a 3-0 edge.

After the Colonials scored in the bottom of the fourth to make it a two-run game, Manhattan got the run back in the sixth, thanks to a Reynolds solo shot, before erupting for four runs in the eighth to break the game open.

Miranda started the inning off by ripping a one out double down the left field line. Teixeira then singled to score Miranda from second and make it a 5-1 game. Reynolds followed with a double to left, moving Teixeira to third and setting the stage at second and third with just one out. After a pitching change, sophomore Jason Patnick (Hopewell, N.J. / Hopewell Valley Central) hit a two RBI single to left, plating Teixeira and Reynolds to make it 7-1 Jaspers. Two batters later and after Patnick swiped second, freshman Michael Pfenninger (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) doubled down the right field line to score Patnick and make it 8-1.

Manhattan scored twice more in the ninth, when Miranda connected on a two-run blast.

As a team, the Jaspers managed 13 hits and all nine players in the starting lineup reached safely via a hit or walk.

Reynolds led the team with a four-hit afternoon. He, Miranda, Patnick and McClennan, J. had two RBIs apiece.

Game One Recap:
In game one, the Jaspers scored runs in the first and third, but runs in five different innings from the Colonials saw George Washington earn an 8-4 victory.

Manhattan struck immediately when senior Chris Kalousdian (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park) doubled to left center. Sophomore Jose Carrera (Miami, Fla. / St. Brendan) laid down a sacrifice bunt, moving Kalousdian to third. Junior Christian Santisteban (Miami, Fla. / Gulliver Prep) hit a sac fly to left, scoring Kalousdian to give Manhattan the early 1-0 advantage.

The Colonials responded by tying the game in the bottom of the opening frame.

After two more George Washington runs in the second, the Jaspers regained the lead, pushing three runs across in the top of the third.

Freshman Paul Genners (Jacksonville, Fla. / Stanton College Prep) walked to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Kalousdian singled to set up first and second with one out. After a pitching change and a pop out, Santisteban connected on a three-run shot to right to give Manhattan the lead at 4-3.

Three runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the eighth provided enough of a cushion for George Washington, as they came away with the victory.

Senior righthander Michael Scarinci (Nanuet, N.Y. / Pearl River) got the start and went five innings. He allowed six runs (three earned) on nine hits. He struck out one and took the loss to move to 1-2 on the season.

Sophomores Matt Simonetti (Manalapan, N.J. / Manalapan) and Shawn Kanwisher (Washington Township, N.J. / St. Joseph's Regional) combined to go the final three innings, allowing two runs total.

The Jaspers return to action on Tuesday, March 10, when they travel across the Bronx to take on Fordham. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
