RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's lacrosse team dropped a 5-3 decision to Central Connecticut State under windy conditions at Gaelic Park on Wednesday afternoon.
With the loss, Manhattan moves to 2-5, while CCSU improves to 2-5.
Goals came few and far between over the course of the afternoon. Manhattan opened the scoring when junior Claire Roediger (Katonah, N.Y. / Somers) scored 4:11 into the first half.
After the Blue Devils knotted the score at one exactly 12 minutes after Roediger's goal, the Jaspers answered back with a goal from junior co-captain Kaitlyn Cunningham (Spring Lake, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) with just over two minutes remaining in the first half.
CCSU ended the opening stanza with a quick 2-0 run to take a 3-2 lead into the halftime break.
Cunningham's second goal of the game tied the score at three with 23:30 to play in the game, but the Blue Devils concluded the contest with the final two goals to come away with the slim 5-3 win.
Sophomore Alexandra Hooker had a game-high three points (2G, 1A) for CCSU. Senior goalkeeper Morgan Tuller made 11 saves in the win. Courtney McPartland picked up a game-high eight ground balls for the Blue Devils.
For Manhattan, senior starting goalkeeper Christina Fiorinelli (Massapequa, N.Y. / Massapequa) led the team with five ground balls, while Cunningham collected four. Sophomore Carly Cummings (Owings, Md. / Northern) caused a team-high three turnovers.
The Jaspers return to action on Saturday, March 21, when they open their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) slate with a game against Fairfield. First draw control is scheduled for 2 p.m.
