NEWARK, Del. - The Manhattan men's lacrosse team fell to Delaware, 12-5, in a non-conference competition at Delaware Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The Jaspers fall to 0-8 with the loss, while the Fightin' Blue Hens improve to 4-5.
Delaware scored five goals in the first quarter and began the game on a 7-0 run en route to earning its fourth win of the year.
Senior co-captain Marcel Godino (Summit, N.J. / Summit) put the Jaspers on the board 5:53 into the second quarter to make it a 7-1 game, as the two sides scored five goals apiece following the early Fightin' Blue Hens run.
After three more Delaware goals, Godino netted his second of the game to make the score 10-2 with 9:14 remaining in the third quarter.
Manhattan finished strong, outscoring the Fightin' Blue Hens 3-1 in the final frame, but the Jaspers' run proved too little, too late.
Senior Andrew Hurst (Babylon, N.Y. / Babylon) struck twice, while junior Nick Strano (Rocky Point, N.Y. / Rocky Point) scored once for Manhattan in the fourth quarter.
Freshman goalkeeper Michael Zingaro (Cortland Manor, N.Y. / Walter Panas) regisetered 12 saves in the game.
Delaware senior attacker Beau Jones led all players with four goals and an assist for five points in the outing. Senior Brian Kormondy recorded two goals and two assists.
Senior Brett Anton made ten saves for Delaware in the win.
The Jaspers will return to action on Saturday, March 21, when they take on Brown in a 1 p.m. matchup.
