BRONX, N.Y. - Manhattan stranded 12 runners in dropping a 6-1 decision to Fordham in non-conference action at Houlihan Park.
The Jaspers fall to 2-10 in defeat while the Rams improve to 3-9 and will next be in action at George Mason on Friday, March 13 with first pitch slated for 3 p.m. Tomorrow's slated game with NYIT has been cancelled.
After leaving a pair aboard in the top of the first, senior Vin Teixeira (Hamden, Conn. / Hamden Hall Country Day) led off with a single before moving to third on the first of two Evan Brown (So., Ashburnham, Mass. / Cushing Academy) doubles. Unfortunately, the pair would be stranded as Fordham RHP Ben Greenberg quickly got the next three outs.
After holding the Rams scoreless over the first two frames, freshman LHP Tom Cosgrove (Staten Island / Monsignor Farrell) was tagged for a pair of third-inning runs.
Manhattan would again threaten in the top of the fourth as Brown delivered a one-out double before Joe McClennan (Highland Mills, N.Y. / Cornwall) was plunked. Unfortunately, Greenberg again evaded trouble by getting the next two outs.
Fordham would add single scores in the fifth and the sixth innings to go in front 4-0.before the Jaspers got on the board in the top of the seventh.
Thanks to four walks, Manhattan trimmed the deficit to 4-1 as reigning MAAC Player of the Week Chris Reynolds' (Jr., Wall, N.J. / St. Rose) bases loaded walk plated senior Chris Kalousdian (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park). Unfortunately, that would be it for the Jaspers as RHP Joseph Serrapica got the final out.
Fordham added to the lead with two in the eighth as Serrapica got the final six outs in registering his first save of the season.
Junior Christian Santisteban (Miami, Fla. / Gulliver Prep) went 2-for-3 with two walks while Brown notched a pair of doubles to lead a seven-hit attack.
Cosgrove (0-2) struck out three while yielding two runs over 3.2 innings in being saddled with the loss.
Greenburg (1-0) earned the win, strking out four over 6.2 innings of one-run ball.
