JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Manhattan men's soccer team fell to Saint Peter's, 2-1 in double overtime, in a closely contested Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) battle at Jaroschak Field on Wednesday night.
Manhattan moves to 1-6-1 overall, and 1-2 in league play. Saint Peter's improves to 6-4-1, including 3-1 against MAAC opponents.
Junior defender Jack Fisher netted the decisive goal in the 105th minute to propel the Peacocks to their third conference win of the fall. Sophomore Ezequiel Cei provided the service off a corner and found senior Jack Pounce along the near post. The ball then made its way to the far post where Fisher finished to end the match.
Saint Peter's struck first in the 38th minute, when freshman Rodrigo DaSilva found goal following a pass from junior Luke Fairlamb.
Just over three minutes later, Manhattan junior Niels Kirch (Zülpich, Germany / Franken-Gymnasium) leveled the match at one. Kirch and sophomore Troy Carrington (Verona, N.J. / Syracuse) played a beautiful combination where Carrington slipped the ball to Kirch, who slotted the equalizer into the far corner.
Manhattan freshman goalkeeper R.J. Noll (Yelm, Wash. / Yelm) made one save in the contest, a diving stop in the 55th minute, to keep the game knotted at one.
The Jaspers outshot Saint Peter's 10-7 and held a 6-3 edge in shots on target.
Manhattan returns to action on Saturday afternoon, when the squad battles Niagara within the friendly confines of Gaelic Park. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
