HACKENSACK, N.J. – With a showdown against first-place Rider looming on Saturday, the Manhattan College volleyball team took a break from Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action on Wednesday night with a contest at Fairleigh Dickinson.  On the strength of .336 hitting (58 kills, 13 errors, 134 attempts), the Knights (7-11) posted a 25-22, 25-12, 13-25, 25-16 victory at Stratis Arena to snap the Jaspers' (10-8) three-match winning streak.

Play went back-and-forth to start the first set, as neither team held a lead of more than two points until Fairleigh Dickinson used a 6-1 run to turn a 14-12 deficit into an 18-15 advantage.  With the Knights in front 23-20, back-to-back kills by Ivana Kostic (Grocka, Serbia) and Claire Van Dyk (New Richmond, Wis.) brought Manhattan within one at 23-22.  However, Fairleigh Dickinson took the next two points to cap off a 25-22 set win.

There were four ties early in the second set before the Knights broke a 4-4 deadlock with a 16-4 run that gave them a 20-8 cushion.  After the Jaspers scored three of the next four points to make it 21-11, Fairleigh Dickinson wrapped up a 25-12 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.  The Knights hit .640 as a team in the second set, smashing 17 kills with just one error in 25 attempts.

The Jaspers came out on fire in the third set.  After Fairleigh Dickinson scored the first point of the frame, Manhattan rattled off eight straight and led 13-3 on a service ace by Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, Va.).  The Knights got back within five at 17-12, but the Jaspers ended the stanza by scoring seven of the final eight points.  A Rehrer ace finished off a 25-13 Manhattan triumph that extended the match.  As a team, the Jaspers hit .444 (14-2-27) in the third set.

After Fairleigh Dickinson jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the fourth set, the Jaspers rallied to tie the score at 9-9.  However, the Knights responded with a 9-3 rally to regain an 18-12 lead.  Manhattan captured the next point to cut its deficit to five, 18-13, but would get no closer.  Fairleigh Dickinson wrapped up a 3-1 victory by taking the fourth set, 25-16.

Milena Janjusevic (Belgrade, Serbia) paced the Jaspers with 14 kills and added eight digs, while Van Dyk had a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs.  Jade Gray (Boise, Idaho) also recorded a double-double, finishing with 42 assists and 11 digs.  Kostic hit .579 in the match, slamming 12 kills and committing just one error in 19 attempts.  Rehrer served four aces, and Allie Yamashiro (Kapolei, Hawaii) collected a match-high 22 digs.  Manhattan hit .193 (47-20-140) as a team.

Alex Lolland tallied a match-high 15 kills on .423 hitting for the Knights, while Rebecca Sabol hit .421 with 10 kills.  Carly O'Sullivan also finished with 10 kills, and she completed a double-double with 12 digs.  Caroline Laton smacked nine kills to go along with six blocks.  Taylor Wyckoff added five blocks, as Fairleigh Dickinson outblocked Manhattan 13-1.  Allison Butler handed out 31 assists and Josephine Gallagher distributed 15 assists for Fairleigh Dickinson.  The Knights outdug the Jaspers 66-58, with Savanna Wray recording 16 digs and Corey Lostetter notching 10 digs.

Third-place Manhattan (4-1 MAAC) begins a four-match homestand by welcoming MAAC-leading Rider (11-9, 6-0 MAAC) to Draddy Gymnasium for a 1 p.m. showdown on Saturday.  The Jaspers and Broncs split the season series in 2014, with each team winning at home.
