RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned a sweep over Baruch in the Jaspers Senior Night dual meet on Monday.
The men's side swam to an impressive 122-68 victory over the Bearcats, while the women edged Baruch 102-89.
With the win, the men improve to 6-4 on the season. The women's team moves to 4-7 with the victory. The two wins places Jaspers head coach Walter Olsewski three shy of 200 for his coaching career.
Following the meet, the coaching staff named the 14 seniors, Michael Dalia, Kevin Fitzgerald, Scott Isaacs, Ryan Klages, Mike Mackay, Richard Meany, Erik Pepe, Kim Geissler, Lindsie Holmes, Emily Kearns, Alyssa Maccarrone, Emily Orchowski, Molly Russell and Kerry Schuermann, as Manhattan Performers of the Meet.
Men
Mackay and Klages enjoyed much success in their final home meets as Jaspers. The two swam as part of the 200 medley relay squad that earned a first place finish with a time of 1:39.80.
On an individual level, Mackay raced to a top time of 2:02.69 in the 200 individual medley. He also clocked a 59.68 in the 100 breaststroke, finishing under 1:00 in the event for the third consecutive meet.
Klages placed first in the 100 freestyle with a 50.43, touching his closest competitor out by just .04 seconds.
Fellow senior, Meany, won the 1000 freestyle event, posting a time of 11:00.68 to defeat his nearest opponent by almost 14 seconds.
Freshman Neil Perry also swam especially well in Monday's meet, compiling three first place finishes. Perry clocked a 22.40 in the 50 freestyle, a 53.27 in the 100 butterfly and swam an impressive 21.95 in the final leg of the 200 freestyle relay.
Women
Russell brought the women's team its first individual top finish of the evening with a 12:05.65 in the 1000 freestyle.
Sophomore Madison Brown and freshman Audrey Corcoran swam the first and second legs of the 200 medley relay, respectively. The team finished at 1:58.45 to take the top spot by almost eight seconds.
Individually, Brown swam to first place finishes in the 100- and 200 freestyle races, with times of 57.03 and 2:05.13.
Corcoran earned a top finish in the 500 freestyle race, posting a 5:43.67 to earn first by over 15 seconds.
Freshman Alexandra Hutzler continued her excellent rookie campaign with three top times. Hutzler swam to a 2:15.47 in the 200 individual medley to take first place by over eight seconds. She also clocked the best times in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke events with times of 1:02.60 and 1:10.55, respectively.
The women's side will next compete on Friday, January 23, when the Jaspers host Hunter for a 6:30 p.m. dual meet at the Riverdale Country Day School. A ceremony will be held at the facility prior to the meet to recognize the 14 seniors for their hardwork and dedication to the program. The men's team will return to action on Saturday, January 31, when the squad takes on NJIT and Howard in a 1 p.m. tri-meet in Newark, N.J.
