BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Manhattan Jaspers earned a thrilling 1-0 road win over the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers in extra time on Tuesday night. With the win, the Jaspers move to 1-1-0 this fall.
90 minutes wasn't enough time to decide the match, with the two sides playing to a stalemate. The game took 104 minutes, with an own goal ultimately providing the Jaspers with the win. Senior captain Tommy Amos stood over a free kick just outside the penalty area to the right of redshirt junior starting goalkeeper Jack Binks. Amos crossed a great ball into the box that, through traffic, deflected off senior Jake Scavetta as well as St. Francis defenders before sliding into the net to give the Jaspers the victory.
The back four played very well, as they were given the task of defending the tall group of forwards the Terriers utilized in the contest. Sophomore starting goalkeeper Alex Coates McDowall made five saves en route to his first clean sheet of the season.
After the match, Joe Hutter of gojaspers.com spoke with head coach Jorden Scott to get his perspective on the win.
The Jaspers will return to action Tuesday, Sept. 9, when they take the short trip across the Bronx to battle the Fordham Rams. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
