Box Score

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Jaspers dropped a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game, 16-8, to the Monmouth Hawks on Wednesday night. It was Friends of Jaclyn Night at Gaelic Park. With the loss, Manhattan falls to 2-10 on the season, including 0-4 in conference play.

The Hawks began the game on a 3-0 run before sophomore Kaitlyn Cunningham netted the first Manhattan goal to make it 3-1 with 18 minutes to play in the first half. This is as close as the Jaspers would get, as Monmouth never led by fewer than three goals at any point the rest of the evening.

Danielle Rakowitz tallied just over seven minutes later with 10:57 to go in the first half to expand the Hawks lead to 4-1. Stephanie Anderson notched her second goal of the game 2:20 later to make it 5-1.

Senior Kelsey Rehain and Claudia LaMarca of Monmouth would alternate scoring the next four goals of the game. LaMarca closed the scoring in the opening half, registering a goal with just :01 remaining. This gave the Hawks a 7-3 edge at the break.

Sophomore Stefanie Ranagan, who had a game-high 10 draw controls, opened the second half scoring to bring the Jaspers to within three at 7-4. Monmouth recorded the next three goals to increase its lead to 10-4 with 16:11 to play.

Cunningham scored back-to-back free position goals within :39 of one another over the latter stages of the second half to complete her hat trick and conclude the night tied for the game-high in goals with the Hawks' Anderson and midfielder Allison Stathius.

Junior Donna Jo DiNorcia and sophomore Claire Roediger also scored for Manhattan in the game.

Five of Manhattan's eight goals came on free position shots.

Juniors Caitlin Hynes and Alex Rousseau combined to cause five turnovers in the meeting. Hynes and junior starting goalkeeper Christina Fiorinelli shared a game-high in ground balls with four apiece.

Monmouth held a 22-17 edge in ground balls in the game. The Jaspers did a great job on draws, controlling 18 of 25 in the contest, but the extra possessions did not help the offense get into a steady rhythm.

The Jaspers return to action on Saturday, April 12, when they head to Buffalo, N.Y., to battle the Canisius Golden Griffs. The opening draw is set for 11 a.m.
