Canisius Sweeps Saturday Baseball Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Canisius gained a walkoff victory in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader with Manhattan, earning a 4-3 victory before coming away with a 10-0 win in game two to sweep the twinbill.

Game 1 Recap | Box Score

Starting pitchers Joey Rocchietti and Rohn Pierce hung up zeroes for each side through the first three innings before Canisius jumped ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run single by Connor Panas.

In the next half inning, the Jaspers cut their deficit in half, making it a 2-1 game. Christian Santisteban ripped a leadoff double the other way to get the rally started. After two line drive outs to the outfield, Jason Patnick drove home Santisteban with a double of his own, getting Manhattan within a run.

Jimmy Luppens delivered a two-out triple in the fifth to allow Canisius to regain a two-run edge, 3-1. After Rocchietti got out of a jam with runners in scoring position in the sixth, Manhattan tied the score in the seventh. Santisteban singled home Andrew Gorecki to make it a 3-2 game, then Patnick came thrugh with his second two-out RBI of the game, driving in pinch-runner Evan Brown to knot the score at 3-3.

The Jaspers got a runner in scoring position with one out in the ninth against Pierce, who went the distance, but were unable to cash in the run. Canisius did just that in the bottom half of the frame against reliever William Fabra to pull out the 4-3 win.

Game 2 Recap | Box Score

Canisius used two big innings behind a seven-inning complete game by Alex Godzak to complete the doubleheader sweep.

The Griffs scored six times in the second inning, knocking out Manhattan starter Joe Jacques. Sean Abbate came on in relief to retire all five batters he faced to hold the fort.

Canisius then pushed across four runs in the fifth to widen its lead before Casey Meyers and Mike Vocatura combined for 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief work.

Jason Patnick reached base twice for the Jaspers in game two, while Jose Carrera doubled and Yoandry Galan and Chris Reynolds collected base hits.

Manhattan and Canisius will finish its three-game series on Sunday, March 30 at noon.
