RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Jaspers fell 8-7 to Bryant in a double overtime thriller at Gaelic Park on Saturday evening.
Lisa Vendel scored the final two goals of the game for the Bulldogs, including the winner with 1:57 remaining in the first segment of the second overtime period. Manhattan did not trail at any point in the contest prior to conceding the final goal.
For the second consecutive game, Manhattan got off to a quick start by scoring the first two goals of the contest. Domenica O'Brey notched the two early goals while Claire Roediger and Kelsey Rehain scored two times apiece later in the evening. Megan Yarusso also tallied for Manhattan and added an assist, and Donna Jo DiNorcia assisted on the second O'Brey goal.
Christina Fiorinelli was stellar in front of Manhattan's cage once again. The junior made 11 saves in the game. Manhattan's defense was solid all evening long. Caitlin Hynes caused three turnovers, a team-high. Alex Rousseau caused two turnovers and collected a team leading four ground balls. As a team, the Jaspers held a 31-20 edge in ground balls.
Manhattan will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Wagner to take on the Seahawks. The opening draw is set for 4 p.m. in Staten Island, N.Y.
