DOVER, Del. - Manhattan goals came in abundance during the Jaspers 18-2 defeat of Delaware State on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Jaspers improve to 2-4 on the season and have now won two consecutive contests.
Manhattan scored the first three goals of the game and never looked back. Senior Carly Eskenazi scored her first two goals of the season. She also added three assists to lead the team with five points on the day.
The Jaspers went on two separate lengthy runs in the game. They started with a 7-0 spurt in the middle of the first half, and then went on to score the last eight goals of the game over the final 30:40 of play.
Senior Kelsey Rehain led the team in goals as she recorded a hat trick. Eskenazi, fellow senior Brianna Rickert, juniors Domenica O'Brey and Donna Jo DiNorcia, and sophomore Megan Yarusso scored two goals each for Manhattan.
Sophomores Stefanie Ranagan and Claire Roediger, and freshman Darby Nolan also scored goals for Manhattan.
Junior Ali Griffin registered her first goal of the season and freshman Ella Akier scored her first collegiate goal.
Junior starting goalkeeper Christina Fiorinelli made three saves in the first half and got the win. Freshman Kelsey Thomas played the second half in cage for the Jaspers and made five saves in her second appearance of the season.
The Jaspers will next play on Wednesday, March 19, when they travel to Fairfield, Conn., to take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers. The opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
