RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Jaspers dropped a home meeting with the Hartford Hawks at Gaelic Park on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 12-7.
The turning point of the game came in the opening minutes of the third quarter with Manhattan trailing 5-3. The Hawks went on a 6-0 run in the opening 4:03 of the second half, and an 8-0 run dating back to the latter stages of the first half, to extend their lead to 11-3. Kevin O'Shea had four goals for Hartford in the contest, all of them coming in the opening minutes of the second stanza. Tate Klidonas also scored four times for the Hawks and added two assists for a game-high six points.
Ryan Payton recorded a hat trick for the Jaspers and had a team-high four points in the game. Junior Marcel Godino had two goals on the afternoon while Andrew Hurst and Tyler Eidel each tallied once.
Starting goalkeeper Rich Akapnitis racked up 16 saves in the game and now has 73 stops in five contests this spring.
Senior Sean McMahon collected a team-high five ground balls for the Jaspers and continues to lead the team in that category with 28 over the first five games of the season.
Manhattan returns to action on Sunday, Mar. 9, when they host Mount St. Mary's for a 1 p.m. game at Gaelic Park.
