LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – On Sunday afternoon, the Manhattan College volleyball team took on Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival Siena at the Alumni Recreation Center.  Unfortunately, the Jaspers (7-7, 1-1 MAAC) were unable to carry the momentum of their dramatic five-set victory at Marist into the match, as the Saints (3-9, 2-0 MAAC) hit a combined .333 en route to a 25-20, 25-17, 25-11 victory.

Manhattan took an early 3-1 advantage in the first set and led 12-8 after a service ace by Sarah Haselhorst (Naperville, Ill.).  Siena rallied for five straight points to go ahead 13-12, but the Jaspers responded with a 5-1 spurt to regain a 17-14 cushion.  However, the Saints ended the set by claiming 11 of the final 14 points, giving them a 25-20 win.  Siena hit .320 (13 kills, five errors, 25 attempts) in the opening frame.

In the second set, Siena jumped out to a 6-4 lead before the Jaspers responded with a 6-1 rally of their own.  After a kill by Teodora Peric (Chicago, Ill.) made it 10-7 Manhattan, the Saints won six of the next seven points to go back in front, 13-11.  Manhattan tied the score at 13-13, but Siena quickly regained the lead, 18-14.  The Jaspers trimmed their deficit to two on Malia McGuinness (Kailua, Hawaii) and Erin Weis's (Omaha, Neb.) block that made it 19-17.  However, Siena closed the set on a 6-0 spurt, pulling ahead 2-0 in the match with the 25-19 set win.

It was all Siena in the third set.  The Saints scored the first four points of the stanza before Manhattan pulled within 5-3 on a kill by Ellie Wiekamp (Laguna Niguel, Calif.).  However, Siena took control from there, going on a 19-5 run to reach match point.  Siena made just one hitting error in the third set, hitting .444 (13 kills, 27 attempts) in a 25-11 win that capped off the straight-sets victory.

Wiekamp paced the Jaspers with 10 kills.  McGuinness added seven kills and six digs, while Weis had a team-high five blocks.  Peric handed out 16 assists.  Jade Gray (Boise, Idaho) and Allie Yamashiro (Kapolei, Hawaii) led Manhattan with eight digs apiece.  As a team, the Jaspers hit .094 (29-20-96) in the match.

Four different Saints had at least six kills, led by Taylor Akana's nine.  Akana also tallied nine digs.  Jacqueline Skeen finished with eight kills and four blocks, while Meghann Wright recorded seven kills, 11 digs, five blocks and four aces.  Haley Howell distributed 32 assists, and Bobbi Lin Kalama contributed 10 digs, as the Saints outdug the Jaspers 40-26.  Siena posted 39 kills in 81 attempts and committed just 12 errors as a team.

The Jaspers are back in action on Wednesday night, when they conclude their three-match road trip with a short visit to Saint Peter's (3-11, 1-1 MAAC).  The match is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.
