RIVERDALE, N.Y. - In the final home meet of 10 Jasper seniors, and in front of numerous alums in attendance for the second annual alumnit meent, the Manhattan men's swimming team earned a 99-91 victory over NJIT on Sunday. The victory snapped a five meet losing streak for the Jaspers (7-6) who completed the home portion of their schedule.
Manhattan began the meet off right with a 1-2 finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Lance Neuendorf, Mike Mackay, Ryan Klages, and Mike Scire finished 0.37 seconds ahead of Cullen Balcanoff, Dennis Daly, Scott Isaacs and Mickey Ruddy.
Neuendorf would add onto his day with a win the 200 yard freestyle while senior Robert Varieur came away with wins the 50 and 100 freestyle along with swimming the anchor leg in the 800 free relay in which the Jaspers placed second.
On that relay squad with Varieur were PJ Sweeney, Marcus Gilliland, and Dallan Treanor. Balcanoff was another double winner for Manhattan picking up a victory in the 200 Individual Medley before Neuendorf captured the 100 fly for his third win of the day.
Today's meet marked the final home competition for Balcanoff, Parker, Ruddy, Scire and Variuer for the Manhattan men. There were also five women's swimmers celebrating their careers in Riverdale during the competition. Brianne Grant, Jackie Mamary, Meghan Marro, Cassandra Bush, and Nadine Maher all swam exhibition events during the meet, competing for the final time in front of their home crowd.
Both the men's and women's (5-7) return to action on Mon., Jan. 28 as they visit Metro Atlantic Althetic Conference (MAAC) rival Iona at 6 p.m.
