Schlauder?s Two Goals Paces Jaspers to 3-0 Win

Box Score

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - In a contest heavily controlled by the Manhattan women's soccer team, no star shined brighter than Janie Schlauder (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan). The junior forward scored twice for the Jaspers (4-5-0) who defeated Saint Peter's 3-0 at home on Friday night.

The Jaspers took the role of aggressor right from the start as they has quality chance after quality chance in the first half. After a shot in the box was deflected out, Shannon Garrity (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) put a ball towards the box that freshman Colleen Kavanagh (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) settled. After a couple touches she placed a feed to her left that Schlauder hammered past Caitlin Hoffer for the first goal of the night.

Saint Peter's (1-10-0) was denied any real scoring opportunity throughout the contest by the Jaspers defense who consistently stepped in front of passes and re-directed advancing attackers. In the 41st minute, Manhattan would tack on another goal as Alex Iovine (Canton, Conn./Northwest Catholic) flipped a ball over the head of Hoffer that hit the crossbar. However, Martine Diamond (Island Park, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) would clean up the rebound knocking it home to make the score 2-0 going to halftime.

Out of the locker room, the pace remained the same as Manhattan controlled the tempo. The Jaspers would finish the contest outshooting the Peacocks 19-10 while also leading in the corner kicks department 7-0.

In the 62 minute, Emily Ude (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) would get possession off a long feed and send it to the middle of the field for Schlauder who blasted a shot from 20 yards out that went over the head of Hoffer for her second of the contest.

Manhattan's defense would not allow a real threat to reach the net as Kara Davis (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) finished the game needing to make just two saves. Freshman keeper Kristen Skonieczny (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) would replace her in the 73rd minute and finish the contest without needing to make a save.

Manhattan will be back in action next week when they host conference rival Rider at 7 p.m. on Fri. Oct. 5 at Gaelic Park.
