RIVERDALE, N.Y. - A five goal third quarter by Sacred Heart upended the Manhattan men's lacrosse team as they fell 9-6 to the Pioneers at Campus Field in Fairfield, Conn. on Saturday afternoon. A strong second half completed a comeback from an early three goal deficit and dropped the Jaspers to 1-4 on the season.

Freshman Mike Chilvers scored the first goal of his collegiate career with 1:34 remaining in the first quarter. Teammates Jonathan Bourne and Andrew Hurst each found the back of the net to push the lead to three with 7:33 remaining in the first half.

Sacred Heart (2-3) got on the board five minutes later when Cody Marquis when he buried a feed from Matt Gannon with 2:39 left in the second period. This started a string of six straight goals for Sacred Heart as Mike Mawdsley cut the Jasper advantage to one a little over a minute after and the Pioneers trailed 3-2 going into the locker room. Both goals for the Pioneers came on the extra man opportunity where they were 3-for-5.

After halftime, Mawdsley tied the game a mere twelve seconds in triggering a five goal third quarter. With the Pioneers up 6-3, Brendan Rogers found Hurst for his second goal of the game to get the Jaspers back within two. However, Marquis would score his third of the contest with 0:04 remaining in the third to make it a 7-4 Sacred Heart lead going into the final quarter. Marquis led all players with five total points (three goals and two assists) in the game.

Brett Madarasz attempted to start the Manhattan comeback with a goal at the 13:45 mark of the fourth before Mawdsley tickled twine twice in a row over a span of 10 minutes as the Jaspers trailed 9-5 with 3:13 remaining. Bourne would get another goal with just over a minute left for the final tally of the game.

Freshman Brian Lenskold won six of 16 face offs he took while Sacred Heart's Stephen Kontos was 12-19 for the Pioneers.
