The Jaspers (11-11, 5-5 MAAC) look to extend their two-game winning streak this afternoon against first-place Marist (15-6, 10-0 MAAC) at Draddy Gymnasium in the National MAAC Game of the Week. Dean Darling and Mika Ryan have the call on ESPN3 at 4:30 p.m. Manhattan is coming off a 56-53 victory over Siena on Friday, while Marist has won 10 straight, including a 56-45 win at Siena on Sunday afternoon. Following the women's game, the Manhattan men host Iona in a battle for first place in the MAAC.
THE MANHATTAN JASPERS
Manhattan (11-11, 5-5 MAAC) has won back-to-back games for the first time since winning six straight from Dec. 17-Jan. 4. The Jaspers are coming off a 56-53 victory over Siena on Thursday, which was Head Coach John Olenowski's 50th win at the helm of the program. Manhattan currently sits in fourth place in the MAAC. Senior forward Lindsey Loutsenhizer paces Manhattan with 12.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Senior guard Schaynne Halfkenny ranks second on the squad in both scoring (10.6 ppg) and rebouding (5.1 rpg), while sophomore guard Monica Roeder also tallies 10.6 points per outing. In addition, Roeder drains a team-high 1.9 three-pointers per game. Senior forward Nadia Peters ranks second in the MAAC with 2.3 steals per contest. She also leads the team with 1.0 blocks per game and is third with 4.9 rebounds a night. The Jaspers conclude their three-game homestand against Niagara on Friday night.
THE MARIST RED FOXES
Marist (15-6, 10-0 MAAC) has won 34 consecutive games against MAAC opponents, including 10 straight this season. The first-place Red Foxes are coming off a 56-45 win at Siena on Sunday afternoon. Senior guard Corielle Yarde paces the Red Foxes with 14.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. She also ranks second in the MAAC in both assists (4.4 apg) and assist/turnover ratio (2.0). In addition, Yarde leads the team with 1.2 blocks per game. Senior forward Brandy Gang contributes 11.8 points per outing and is shooting .481 from the field. Sophomore guard Leanne Ockenden is Marist's top three-point shooter. She drains 1.9 treys per contest. Sophomore guard Casey Dulin hands out 2.5 assists per game to go along with a team-leading 1.7 steals per outing. As a team, Marist leads the MAAC in eight different statistical categories, including field goal percentage (.410), three-pointers (6.2), assists (14.1) and blocks (4.2).
SERIES HISTORY
The Jaspers were the last MAAC team to beat Marist, defeating the Red Foxes 65-62 at Draddy Gymnasium on Feb. 28, 2010. Since then, Marist has won three straight against Manhattan, including a 61-41 decision in Poughkeepsie on Jan. 9. The Red Foxes have won 17 of the last 18 meetings between the schools, but Manhattan holds a 22-20 edge in the all-time series.
LAST TIME OUT
Manhattan picked up its second straight win on Friday evening, defeating Siena 56-53 at Draddy Gymnasium. The Jaspers led 55-45 with 3:36 remaining before Siena went on an 8-0 run to pull within two, 55-53, with 1:04 left. The Saints had the ball and used their final timeout with 24 seconds to go, but Toni-Ann Lawrence got a steal and handed off to Maggie Blair, who hit a free throw to make it a three-point game with seven seconds remaining. Siena fired a trey at the buzzer, bit it was off the mark, giving John Olenowski his 50th win as Manhattan's head coach. Schyanne Halfkenny paced Manhattan with 13 points, while Lindsey Loutsenhizer added 12 points and seven boards. Monica Roeder tied a career-high with eight rebounds to go along with nine points.
