Jaspers Host Saint Peter's On Senior Day

GAMEDAY
Manhattan (14-13, 8-7 MAAC) concludes its home schedule this afternoon with a matchup against Saint Peter's (3-23, 3-12 MAAC).  It's Senior Day at Draddy Gymnasium, and the Jaspers will honor Schyanne Halfkenny, Alyssa Herrington, Lindsey Loutsenhizer and Nadia Peters before the game.  The Jaspers saw their two-game winning streak snapped with a 61-56 loss at Siena on Friday night, while the Peahens are coming off a 61-54 home loss to Loyola on Friday night.

THE MANHATTAN JASPERS
The Jaspers (14-13, 8-7 MAAC), who saw their two-game winning streak end with a 61-56 loss at Siena on Friday night, enter today's contest in fourth place in the MAAC standings.  Manhattan needs one win in its final three regular season games to clinch a first-round bye in the MAAC Tournament.  Senior forward Lindsey Loutsennhizer, one of four seniors who'll be honored prior to the game, leads the Jaspers in both scoring and rebounding.  She averages 12.2 points and 6.1 boards per contest.  Loutsenhizer also leads the Jaspers with 2.5 assists per game.  Senior guard/forward Schyanne Halfkenny contributes 10.3 points per outing, including a team-best 11.3 points per game in conference play, and sophomore guard Monica Roeder tallies 10.1 points a night.  With her next blocked shot, senior forward Nadia Peters will tie the program record of 141 career blocks.  Peters leads the team in blocks (1.0 bpg) and ranks third in the MAAC in steals (2.2 spg).

THE SAINT PETER'S PEAHENS
Saint Peter's (3-23, 3-12 MAAC) dropped a 61-54 decision to Loyola on Friday night and comes into today's game tied for ninth place in the MAAC.  Senior forward Jynae Judson leads the Peahens with 13.5 points per game.  She also ranks second on the squad in rebounding (5.9 rpg), assists (2.7 apg) and steals (1.9 spg).  Senior center Quiana Porter, who averages 7.7 points per contest, leads team team with 6.4 rebounds per outing.  Porter pulls down a MAAC-best 3.5 offensive boards per game and ranks second in the league in blocks (1.3 bpg).  Junior forward Kristal Edwards tallies 6.3 points and 4.4 rebounds to go along with 1.5 steals per outing, while sophomore guard Aziza May hands out a team-leading 3.1 assists per contest.  As a team, Saint Peter's leads the MAAC in both rebounding (39.8 rpg) and blocked shots (4.1 bpg).  The Peahens end the regular season by facing Rider and Iona next weekend.

SERIES HISTORY
Manhattan has won five straight against Saint Peter's, including a 62-36 victory at the Yanitelli Center on Jan. 29.  The Jaspers' current five-game winning streak against the Peahens is their longest-ever in a series that dates back to the 1978-79 season.  Overall, Manhattan and Saint Peter's have played 71 times previously, with the Peahens leading the series 50-21.

LAST TIME OUT
The Jaspers rallied back from 15 points down with five minutes left to within four, but ultimately came up short, 61-56 against Siena at UHY Court at the Alumni Recreation Center on Friday night.  After leading 33-25 at halftime, the Saints extended their cushion to 53-38 with 5:02 left before Alyssa Herrington sank a trey to start the Manhattan comeback.  Three-pointers on their next two possessions got the Jaspers within six, then an Ashley Stec layup trimmed it to four.  However, Siena scored the next five points to bring the margin back to nine, 58-49, with 1:30 remaining, and the Saints held on for a 61-56 triumph.  Herrington drained five three-pointers in the game and finished with a team-high 19 points, while Schyanne Halfkenny added 14 points and Toni-Ann Lawrence grabbed eight rebounds.
