Jaspers Host Siena On "National Girls & Women In Sports Day"

GAMEDAY
Manhattan (10-11, 4-5 MAAC) begins a three-game homestand this evening by hosting Siena (6-13, 4-6 MAAC) on "National Girls & Women In Sports Day" at Draddy Gymnasium.  The Jaspers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 62-36 victory at Saint Peter's on Sunday afternoon, while the Saints saw their two-game winning streak end with a 56-45 loss to Marist on Sunday.  This is the opener of a Manhattan basketball doubleheader.  Following the women's game, the Jasper men host Marist at 8 p.m.

THE MANHATTAN JASPERS
The Jaspers (10-11, 4-5 MAAC) snapped a three-game skid with a 62-36 win over Saint Peter's on Sunday.  Senior forward Lindsey Loutsenhizer paces Manhattan in scoring, rebounding and assists.  She tallies 12.4 points and 6.0 boards while dishing out 2.6 assists per game.  Loutsenhizer also ranks second in the MAAC in three-point percentage (.403).  Sophomore guard Monica Roeder, who drained her 100th career three-pointer against Saint Peter's, sinks a team-high 1.9 treys per contest.  She also ranks second on the team in scoring (10.7 ppg).  Senior guard/forward Schyanne Halfkenny tallies 10.5 points and 5.1 boards per outing, while senior forward Nadia Peters contributes a team-leading 2.4 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.  Tonight's contest is the first game of a three-game homestand for Manhattan.  The Jaspers host Marist in the MAAC National Game of the Week on ESPN3 on Saturday afternoon.

THE SIENA SAINTS 
Siena (6-13, 4-6 MAAC) had a two-game winning streak snapped with a 56-45 loss to first-place Marist on Sunday.  The Saints are led by junior forward Lily Grenci, who leads the conference with 15.4 points per game.  Grencio also ranks fourth in the MAAC in rebounding (7.8 rpg).  Senior guard Cristina Centeno is second on the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 11.1 points and 5.4 boards per contest.  Centeno also paces the Saints with 3.8 assists and 2.1 steals per outing.  Senior guard Maja Gerlyng ranks third on the squad in scoring (10.0 ppg), and she drains a team-leading 1.4 three-pointers per game.  Freshman guard Tehresa Coles, who has earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors twice this season, contributes 1.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game.  Siena, which enters tonight's game in a four-way tie for fifth place in the MAAC, returns home for a matchup with Iona on Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY
This is the first meeting of the season between the Jaspers and Saints, who have split with each other in each of the last two campaigns.  Last season, Siena notched a 51-44 victory at Draddy Gymnasium before Manhattan returned the favor with a 48-45 triumph in Albany.  This is the 51st all-time meeting between the schools, with Siena leading the series 32-18.

LAST TIME OUT
The Jaspers snapped their three-game losing streak with a 62-36 victory at Saint Peter's on Sunday afternoon.  Manhattan never trailed in the game, scoring the first seven points and leading 13-2 barely eight minutes in.  Saint Peter's pulled within 20-15 at the 3:49 mark of the first half, but the Jaspers ended the period on a 7-0 rally to take a 27-15 advantage into the locker room.  The Peahens trimmed their deficit to eight early in the second half before the Jaspers scored eight points in a minute to make it a 16-point game.  Manhattan cruised from their, scoring the final nine points of the contest to notch a 62-36 triumph.  Monica Roeder had 13 points and tied a career-high with eight rebounds, while Schyanne Halfkenny notched 12 points and Lindsey Loutsenhizer added 10 points, six boards and five assists.

NATIONAL GIRLS & WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY
Tonight, the Jaspers are proud to participate in the 26th annual "National Girls & Women In Sports Day."  NGWSD recognizes the accomplishments of female athletes and encourages increased participation in sports.  This year's theme is "Title IX at 40: In It for the Long Run," honoring the 40th anniversary of Title IX, the landmark federal legislation that dramatically altered the landscape of women's high school and college athletics.
