Manhattan Falls in Regular-Season Finale at Fairfield

The Manhattan women's soccer team dropped its last contest of the 2012 season at Fairfield falling 5-0 on Sunday. Stags' senior midfielder Lauren Reilly scored all three of her goals in the first 21 minutes of the match, including the game winner in the sixth minute.

Jaspers' senior goalkeeper Kara Davis made four saves in her final collegiate contest to finish with 83 on the year. Davis played the first 56 minutes and allowed four goals. She completed the season with a 1.08 goals against average.

Fairfield used three goalkeepers to combine for the shutout. Kathleen Early did not have to make a save in the first 45 minutes. Veronica Saez posted three saves in 35 minutes and Sophia DeVita closed the match with one save in the last 10 minutes.

The Stags did not waste time getting on the scoreboard. Reilly finished a header with 5:23 on the clock to give Fairfield an advantage. Stags' junior forward Shannon Fay notched the second goal 46 seconds later to jump ahead 2-0.

Reilly tacked on two more goals to put the game out of reach before the 22nd minute. She posted her second of the contest with 13:01 on the clock when she buried a header just under the crossbar from a cross by Kasey Schulz. Schulz also set up Reilly's next goal at 20:42 that opened a 4-0 Fairfield advantage.

The Stags added one more to their tally in the second half when Erin Pettersen finished after collecting a rebound from her initial shot attempt in the 71st minute. Jaspers' freshman goalkeeper Kristen Skonieczny came up with three saves playing 35 minutes in the second half.

Fairfield owned a 21-10 shot advantage in the match. The Stags placed 12 shots on goal to Manhattan's four shots on net. Jaspers' junior midfielder Martine Diamond placed two of her team-high three shot attempts on goal.

Manhattan finished the 2012 campaign with a 5-12 overall record. The Jaspers went 2-7 in MAAC contests.
