NEW YORK, N.Y. - On Saturday the Manhattan men's and women's swim teams made a quick trip to Metropolitan area rival Pace. The men put on an impressive display, taking a 119-88 meet victory, while the women struggled falling to the Setters 127-105.
Once again, it was freshman Lance Neuendorf leading the way for the Jasper men (2-1). Neuendorf led off the 200 yard medley relay for Manhattan while Scott Isaacs, Mike Mackay, and Mickey Ruddy also were part of the squad that finished with a time of 1:41.52 seconds.
Neuendorf then went and set the school mark in the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 4:18.03, finishing a full 14 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. The old mark, set by RJ Meany was 4:22.42 seconds. The Jaspers also got impressive performances from PJ Sweeney and Robert Varieur. Sweeney took first in the 100 yard freestyle and the 100 yard butterfly while Varieur won both the 200 and 50 yard free.
James Kelly showed off his talents on the diving board against Pace breaking his own school records in the 1 meter and 3 meter dives. Over six dives, Kelly accrued a record 146.18 points on the 1 meter board before totaling 160.13 points off the 3 meter board.
The Manhattan women (1-2) dropped their second consecutive meet despite some solid swimming. The Jaspers won their opening event as Kerry Schuermann, Brianne Grant, Paige Raccioppi, and Melanie Tam won the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 1:59.78 seconds.
Grant and Raccioppi would each notch extra victories on the day as Grant won the 100 back while Raccioppi dominated the 400 IM in 4:55.69 seconds, seven seconds ahead of second place. Kim Geissler also took home an event win taking the 500 yard freestyle by a narrow 0.69 second margin.
The Jaspers will go back into conference play on Fri. Nov., 2 for their next meet when they make a short trip to New Rochelle, N.Y. to face off with Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival Iona.
